The Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) Rebate Scheme reopened on the 21st December 2021 to recover SSP for COVID related absences where the criteria for Statutory Sick Pay is met.  You as an employer can recover up to 2 weeks of SSP per employee starting from their first qualifying day of sickness. The guidance was recently updated and the scheme will close on 24 March 2022. You can claim for employees who were off work with a COVID related absence between 21 December 2021 and the 17 March 2022 with all claims to be submitted by 24 March 2022.

Please also note that in order for the claim to be eligible the SSP must be paid to the employee on or before the 24th March 2022.

Normal SSP rules will resume from 25 March 2022 which means employers can revert to paying SSP from the fourth qualifying day their employee is off work sick regardless of the reason.
